Assertion Analysis #19
This poem shows how transcendentalists believed in natures beauty. The author uses the spider to represent the 5 I's. the representation of individualism, inspiration and idealism as the spider is isolated surrounded by nature it can appreciate the natural beauty of which it is surrounded by. the discription of what is around the spider shows the authors imagination and creativity.
Assertion Analysis #22
Lincoln's use of Pathos gets the audience emotionally involved into what he is saying. He continuously talks about how they need to finish the war in honor of the fallen soldiers that they are standing upon. That those who continue to live should fight in honor of those who have fallen and support the war until it ends up the way they want in favor of the Union. The need to unite the nation was something very important to Lincoln.
Assertion Analysis #21
Oh, could I raise the darken'd veil
Which hides my future life from me,
Could unborn ages slowly sail
Before my view -- and could I see
My every action painted there,
To cast one look I would not dare.
There poverty and grief might stand,
And dark Despair's corroding hand,
Would make me seek the lonely tomb
To slumber in its endless gloom.
Then let me never cast a look,
Within Fate's fix'd mysterious book.
Which hides my future life from me,
Could unborn ages slowly sail
Before my view -- and could I see
My every action painted there,
To cast one look I would not dare.
There poverty and grief might stand,
And dark Despair's corroding hand,
Would make me seek the lonely tomb
To slumber in its endless gloom.
Then let me never cast a look,
Within Fate's fix'd mysterious book.
This poem represents Gothic literature as it shows the inner feelings of one person. As everything the character describes is about the corruption of what he feels inside himself and what is stuck inside of him that he needs to get out. He is showing the world that Transcendentalism and Romanticism is all nice but every person carries evil within them and evil is something everyone needs to be aware of.
Assertion Analysis #20
Society today is just as corrupt as it was during the time of christopher McCandles. I feel like i have been affected by the negativity of the world very profoundly. Living in todays society people focus on the bad more so than the good. No matter what accomplishments you make in life there is always someone who is going to continue to "hate" on you and your success. Its sad, but thats the world we live in today. As christopher McCandless left the corrupt world to be among the wild, the idea of such is so radical to the people that its honestly something i would be interested in doing, just to escape the worlds negativity and corruptness.

Assertion Analysis #25
Slave owners in the South used the salves ignorance to continue to oppress them. Based on my knowledge of slavery, it wouldn't matter if you were educated or ignorant you would continue to be treated like less than a human. As the ignorance of the slaves was the greatest hold they had, the thing they most feared was an educated slave. Treating something like less than what it actually is and then having it be better educated than you is something anyone would fear. If others know something you don't, you are automatically going to believe them as they have the knowledge you don't. The south had instilled both the fear of death and lack of education to continue to control slaves.

Assertion Analysis #24
I believe the Captain is innocent as he did what was necessary to be able to have survivors to tell what happened during this tragic accident. As the captain was making an executive decision to make sure we as the people had people to tell the story of the fallen boat. Many of you will say that the captain is a murderer, but he is actually a hero who saved the lives of people to be able to tell an important story and under the circumstances it was acceptable for him to take such measures.

Assertion Analysis #15
Emerson is saying that going against a group of people or laws that are trying to make you be a certain way is the best. The words represents a corruption in the American Government which was the church. A lot of people wanted to get away from the corrupt church and start different lifestyles for themselves. It wasn't easy for those who wanted to step out because they were surrounded by hypocritical people that still believed in the church. They would soon be called multiple names that degraded them.
