Assertion Analysis #12

"Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them."

- Nathaniel Hawthorne

I think he was trying to say that those who can speak well & combine words to an educated level has the power over all. As they can say the right things at the right moments to convey their audience to further convince them. For example Abigail knew exactly what words to use to make the Rev.'s mad and further want to get to the bottom of this problem. Just as McCarthy wanted to win the campaign & continue to have followers he used key words to spark & keep the fear alive so they would continue to follow him.

Assertion Analysis #13

Man, remember, until an hour before the Devil fell, God thought him beautiful in Heaven."

- Arthur Miller, through Rev. Hale, The Crucible, Act 2

Rev. Hale said this as he has gone absolutely no where in his research. Maybe he is trying to send a subliminal to the other Rev.'s that although the accusations around Salem might be out of fear the doing of so was just in creation of something beautiful wanting to come out of it.
