The weeknd is telling us that the people in the world are trying so hard to be up to date with everyone that they're using their credit cards instead of actual money(Debit). This is how society is now-a-days as everyone wants the latest stuff - Versace, Bugatti's, Louis Vuitton, Jordans, Ralph Lauren etc.- and they don't have the money to purchase it. Which is why they use their credit cards, because if they used their actual physical money they wouldn't be able to afford anything.
